Whilst most gyms simply aim to improve your fitness, Daran understands that exercise is not just a physical journey, that it  includes emotional and mental challenges as well.
While the wide range of classes provide something for every age, fitness level and ability, Daran is passionate and aspires to understand his clients and help them overcome their own struggles so that they can accomplish their personal goals.

I have constantly enjoyed the varying exercises and by working without machines I know that I am actually working hard and can feel proud of my achievements, knowing that I did all the hard work.

Having been involved with the personal development industry for a number of years now in my role as a master success coach I have spent so much time and energy helping other people get their goals and dreams, I have always put myself second and my clients first, Daran has taught me to value my health and respect my body and what I put into it, to love the energy rush I get from exercise and looking after myself. I originally contacted Daran Pratt at Edge first group about personal training in July 2008.
I had been considering joining the defence force as a tradesman and thought I would need to be fitter to pass the test. I was type 2 diabetic, managed by medication, and needed to lose 5 points on the BMI.
From the moment I walked into the studio I knew there was something different about this place compared to other “gyms”. To start with there were no machines, no treadmills or exercise bikes, just padded floors and these strange looking things that Daran was calling KETTLEBELLS. He also showed me a range of sandbags, and other things that I had no idea what they were or what they did.
We talked about my goals and Daran immediately told me that we could easily achieve what I wanted. He told me it would be tough and that I would have to work hard to get there, but that he was here to support me.
We discussed prices and I was pleasantly surprised to find out how affordable it was to train at Edge First Group
Daran certainly knows his stuff. He gave me an eating plan, complete with vitamins, fibre tablets and protein supplements. He took my measurements, did a body fat analysis and fitness test. Then we began the training.
Fast forward 12 weeks and I have just had my 3 measure in.  Not only have I lost a total of 31.5 cm and 5% body fat, I have also been able to stop taking my diabetic medication.  My blood sugar count has fallen from 11.4 to 5.6, well within non medication parameters.
My doctor was so amazed that he asked for Daran’s business card so he could start training as well.
The changes in my life are countless. I have more energy, I sleep better, I feel and look years younger. In fact the only bad thing is that I had to buy all new clothes because my old ones no longer fit me.
The best thing about my journey is that I now know how to maintain my new lifestyle, it really is no mystery.

The program Daran placed me on two months ago is all about establishing a well balanced lifestyle, coupled with good eating and practical exercise.  Results and change are what everyone’s looking for when they embark on a new health plan and that’s what I am creating for myself.  In ten weeks I have dropped 5.5 kilograms, reduced my body fat by 5% and lost a total of 28.5cm.  My fitness levels have increased, I am sleeping soundly, and have increased energy and a more positive outlook.  More than ever before, I am motivated to maintain this lifestyle, while continuing to discover my new found wellbeing.   I am learning the power of self-talk and that I can truly choose how I see myself and ultimately what I want to be.  My new way of life is shaping the way I think about myself, exercise and food and not to mention my body shape!

I began training with Daran at Edge First Group a few months ago.  I have been in and around gyms doing “traditional” gym work for about 15 years.  I am a  Black Belt in Tae Kwondo, have been teaching  Group Fitness classes for 5 years and have also done some Figure/Physique Competitions as well - so have experienced a lot of different types of training over the years.

In the last few months my strength, endurance and fitness has increased dramatically.  The type of training I have done at Edge First is totally different to anything I have ever done before.  The other day, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that not only can I now do full chin ups – but I can do them quite easily.  I have worked with kettle bells, sand bags and body weight exercises plus heaps of other things that have pushed me to my limit.  The HIT Kick Boxing is awesome for anyone interesting in martial arts/kick boxing as well as people just wanting to be fitter and stronger!! 

As far as my eating goes, I have switched from the traditional “low fat” diet to a totally different way of eating and am now leaner than I have ever been. 

Hmmmmm I am stronger, I am leaner, I am fitter…

Having started on Edge First’s internet based program only a couple of months ago, I have moved from very poor emotional based eating patterns that had my metabolism and hormones all over the place, to a solid and easy to follow eating plan that’s resulted in my sleeping peacefully, thinking clearly, and feeling really good about myself. Not to mention shedding kilos and building muscle slowly but steadily as well. This result, for a person who has spent their life on and off every diet under the sun with an embedded eating disorder, is nothing short of huge. I first began training with Daran on the 1st of January 2008. My wife had been training with Daran for some time and recommended I see him. At the time I was extremely unfit, very overweight and had a terribly unhealthy life style.

When I first met with Daran, I wanted to begin kickboxing, due to my physical condition and lifestyle Daran recommended an alternative, the healthpoint 2.0 program, in order for me to lose weight, raise my fitness levels and begin leaving and eating healthily. Daran was immediately aware that my self esteem was very low and that if I had attempted to join a kick boxing class with him at the time, I would not have been able to complete a class and would most likely have never returned.

I began the healthpoint program on the 1st of January 2008 and had a starting weight of 110kg. The program focused on eating a healthy balanced diet and curing the dependency I had developed for carbohydrates, thanks to my regular trips to various fast food restaurants. Prior to beginning the program Daran had explained in great detail how it would work and the changes and emotions I would experience as a result of the significant changes I was making. Once the program was underway, Daran was always available to advise and guide me in the decisions and situations I faced daily. As part of the program I also met with Daran once a week for a one on one training session to begin raising my fitness levels.

The results experienced on this program were incredible and almost instantaneous. Within days I had energy levels I could not ever recall having and was walking daily, also a important part of the program, rather than sitting for hours in front of the TV before going to bed. I also was able to get up in the morning easier. As the program progressed, I had fantastic results with weight loss and had lost 10kgs and 15cm from my stomach within the first 4 weeks. This again resulted in my self esteem and confidence increasing which had a positive effect on all aspects of my life.

I have now completed the healthpoint 2.0 program and achieved amazing results which exceeded my original goals. I have lost almost 20kgs, over 20cm from my stomach and now enjoy eating a healthy diet and knowing how to make the right choices with what I eat.

Since completing the program I have continued to train with Daran and achieved my goal of joining his kickboxing class. I now attend 2-3 kickboxing classes per week and also continue to train on a 1-1 basis with Daran who has not only continued to provide guidance and advice and is always happy to share his extensive knowledge, but shown to me on many occasions the genuine joy he gets from seeing his clients achieve their goals.
